Do you need underlay? We recommend installing a good-quality non-biodegradable underlay to prevent damage to the liner from roots and rocks. Our Gordon Low Geotextile 150gsm underlay is a non-woven mechanically-bonded polypropylene fabric to provide a strong protective barrier between the liner and any sharp rocks or roots in your soil. It also supports the liner if the soil compresses or subsides, reducing the risk of any localised stretching or strain on the liner as the ground settles.
Unlike the single sheet of PVC pond liner, the underlay is supplied in 2m widths so you lay it in strips (a bit like wallpapering!). If you choose to buy your underlay at the same time as the liner, we give you the right length of underlay to match your liner size.
